Once again thankyou very much for coming out in the horrible weather and I hope to see you in a fortnight for the next training session (and I’ll make sure that I book sunshine!)
Training sessions
Usually the more hardy members manage to meet up once a week for a training run/jog around the downs! We meet up at the Water tower on Tuesdays at 6pm and either go for a jog around Clifton or do some intervals (around the top part of the downs or on a hill somewhere nearby). Everyone is encouraged to do their best and we accommodate a variety of abilities so no one will get left behind.
This year we are planning to have technical training sessions on Wednesday afternoons so we can make the most of orienteering in the daylight! They are going to be held generally once a fortnight at different locations around Bristol and will range from the basics of folding and setting the map to more advanced compass work and map memory. Alice is in charge of planning and organising and will get in touch when the next session is coming up
They are completely informal and you can turn up to whichever ones you want and whenever you can make it.
UBOC members have also been invited to the BOK club nights from 8-9pm on Thursdays. The club nights can be anything from informal group runs, indoor and outdoor orienteering exercises to circuit training sessions that are suitable for all fitness levels, ages and abilities. The cost is £2 and they are being held at Red Maids School sports hall (in Westbury on Trym, BS9 3AW). They are great fun and a good opportunity to meet local orienteers outside of the university!
